Where do you plan to spend the evening of the 14th of February this year? I was recently invited to dine at St Pancras International’s Brasserie and Champagne Bar by Searcys and I can highly recommend the restaurant as a great place to have dinner this Valentine’s Day!
St Pancras International’s Brasserie and Champagne Bar by Searcys is one of several premium restaurants located inside St Pancras International, a unique Grade I listed building and one of the most stunning examples of Victorian engineering in the city.
If you live in London or have visited the city on holiday, chances are you have been to St Pancras International already. It is by far my favourite railway station in London and one of the most elegant stations I’ve ever seen. I particularly love that it is spacious, airy, bright, always clean and easy to get around.
St Pancras International is so much more than a train station, it is also a fantastic destination for culture, shopping and dining – all located under its iconic roof. One of the highlights of the station concourse is the piano donated and signed by Sir Elton John. The British artist delighted surprised visitors with a medley piano performance in February, 2016. Today, the piano is available for everyone to use and many times I’ve stopped by, to listen to mesmerising live music.
My favourite part of the station though is the Grand Terrace where you can get up close with the iconic iron roof and the three station’s icons: Sir John Betjeman statue, ‘the Lovers’ statue and the Dent Clock. ‘The Lovers’ statue is a 9m tall bronze statue of a couple embracing – for one last kiss before separating or perhaps reuniting after a long time apart. Together with the pink neon sign “I want my time with you”, they create a very romantic atmosphere.
I have been to St Pancras International many times to take the Eurostar or a national train to a train to destinations around England. I have also been there on several occasions just to shop, eat or meet a friend at one of the station’s cafés.
The food choices at St Pancras International are plenty and varied to suit all tastes and prices. For a quick snack on the go, I like M&S and Sourced Market. If I am looking for something fancy, then St Pancras Brasserie and Champagne Bar by Searcys is definitely the place to be.
St Pancras Brasserie and Champagne Bar by Searcys
St Pancras Brasserie is an all day restaurant housed in a beautiful art deco dining room and serving classic British fare. Entering the restaurant from the Upper Terrace of St Pancras International, you will also find the Champagne Bar by Searcys. Awarded the longest Champagne bar in Europe, it overlooks the station concourse and Eurostar train lines, making it one of the most romantic spots for a date in London!
I visited the brasserie for lunch with my husband. It was a Sunday and the menu features a selection of classic plates (such as Searcys burger, steak buvette, battered haddock with chips or roast of the day) as well as egg dishes. Naturally, I chose to have brunch. It is after all my favourite thing to eat!
We started our meal with a glass of Laurent-Perrier La Cuvée Brut NV. As you can imagine, St Pancras Brasserie offers a wide selection of Champagne. La Cuvée Brut NV is a classic dry wine, clear and bright with notes of white peach and richer citrus flavours such as grapefruit.
We ordered the Rainy Lane Yoghurt & Granola bowl with spiced Williams pear and pomegranate (delicious!), followed by Eggs Royale and Scottish sherry smoked salmon with scrambled eggs and sourdough. I tasted both dishes and I was very impressed by the quality of the ingredients and perfection of the cooking.
For pudding, we shared a rich Baked Vanilla Cheesecake with Pumpkin Ice Cream, which was heavenly!
My husband and I really loved the food at St Pancras Brasserie, but also enjoyed the atmosphere and the service. It is a fantastic spot for a date or a meal with your family, so definitely make time to try it next time you are at St Pancras International.
