How To Beat Peak Season Travel Costs

18th July 2019

Traveling in the middle of summer (or any major holiday season for that matter) is expensive. Prices can be up to fifty percent higher than in the off-season, which is a good enough reason to put you off travel altogether. Is there a way to bring down peak-season high rates? Yes! Here are a some tips to beat the system and get to travel on the cheap, even in summer.

How To Beat Peak Season Travel Costs

Use Price Aggregator Sites

Travel companies want you to believe that they offer the very best deals on their websites, but the truth is that they almost certainly do not. The majority of agencies use customer data to predict what fares the average customer is willing to pay. So, they will boost prices in peak season for the customer they think will pay more.

The good news, however, is that there is a wide range of price aggregator websites you can use to find the best deals. These sites solicit prices from travel companies all over the web and then present them to you on a single page (like Skyscanner or Trivago). Type in the service you’d like to book, eg. a flight from London to Las Vegas, and the site will display prices from low to high, letting you pick the cheapest one.

Go To Countries Where Wages Are Low

This is an obvious one, but some countries are more affordable than others. A scuba diving holiday in Indonesia is going to be considerably cheaper than a diving holiday in Maldives. One week in a five star hotel in Santorini in August might cost the same as two weeks in Budva, Montenegro – but you’ll still get beautiful Mediterranean beaches, great food and sunshine!

In 2019, there are fewer places than ever before where you can take advantage of genuinely low wage costs and get restaurant meals for a few euros / dollars per person. One of the best places to travel on a bargain budget is southeast Asia. Countries like Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Bali and Thailand all still have surprisingly low prices, particularly when it comes to eating out and sampling these destinations’ amazing street food.

Get Money Vouchers And Codes

Holiday companies know that not all people are willing to pay the full price. So sometimes they will provide discount codes. You need to go looking for these special offers, but the potential money savings will make the time spent researching worth it.

Net Voucher Codes and other sites around the web aggregate these vouchers in one place (a little bit like the price comparison websites), letting you pick up discounts on a variety of flights, hotels and holiday packages.

Choose Less Popular Regions

To make your holiday more affordable, choose a less popular region and avoid the most popular tourist hotspots. Skip the crowds, discover hidden gems and support the local economies, while also alleviating the pressure of over-tourism elsewhere. Sounds like a great idea, right?

Say you want to holiday in France during the summer. Instead of booking an overpriced hotel in the Côte d’Azur, choose somewhere off the beaten track – but equally wonderful – like the Dordogne region. Or if you always dreamt of an Italian beach holiday, choose the less popular regions of Basilicata and Calabria while the majority of tourists flood into Puglia and Sicily. You are bound to find better deals!
