Last Saturday we took the train out of the city to have brunch with our friends Sam and Hannah in Amersham, a village in the Chiltern district of Buckinghamshire. They always rave about the food (especially breakfast) at Seasons Deli, so it was only a matter of time before I went out there to try it.
The day was grey and rainy, English style, but that didn't spoil the fun!
Rated as one of the Top coffee shops and one of the Best delicatessens in the country, Seasons café deli is a privately owned family business born out of a shared love of food and coffee, and a desire to run a café-deli that we ourselves would love to visit.
Seasons is "the social hub of Old Amersham": on Saturday morning the deli was buzzing, the food was very good and the service was friendly and quick. I can see why Sam and Hannah are loyal customers!
Sandy and I wanted to try the Huevos Rancheros: poached eggs, guacamole, salsa, cornbread toast and sweet chili sauce. I ordered it out of curiosity, as I had never tried this dish before. I am one to prefer a sweet breakfast to a savoury one, but for a brunch I can be a bit adventurous! ;) I loved the poached eggs and the homemade corn bread, which was crunchy on the outside and soft inside.
Sam ordered Salmon & Scrambled Eggs on Toast and Hannah chose Eggs Royale, which looked super tasty! One to try next time I'm Amersham!
After brunch we walked through Old Amersham, by the food / flowers' stalls. Amersham is an elegant and quiet English village, with beautiful cottages and the green countryside just a few minutes' drive away. It made me wish I lived in the country!
Afterwards we drove to Wendover, a market town at the foot of the Chiltern Hills, to spend some time in the antiques' shops. We had fun playing with quirky old objects and even bought a few things: an old zinc planter, a domino set and an antique Model 500 telephone. Sam bought food styling props, though I really think he should have got those round glasses too!! ;)
Thanks Sam and Hannah for inviting us to Amersham and showing us around! :) Until next time!
