Cupcake Decoration Workshop

My hen party was a Cupcake Decoration class with Leigh Koh-Peart of Craft Cakes.

Craft Cakes specializes in beautiful hand-crafted celebration cakes for weddings, birthdays and other events. They also organize fun and informal workshops for children and adults in their workshop space in Hampstead, which is where my party took place.

I discovered Leigh on Twitter, but it was only through Edible Experiences that we got in touch and eventually met. After hearing lots of great things about Leigh’s cakes and her teaching skills, I knew she would organize the perfect hen party for me!

The class lasted two and a half hours and we started by colouring the buttercream. Then we learned how to decorate the cupcakes using a piping bag and creating different shapes of buttercream. We all did a bit of testing and used different colours, so we could mix and match afterwards when we decorated the real cupcakes.

We learned how to use the fondant to create decorations such as flowers, hearts, butterflies and so on. And used sugar decorations and glitter to add a final touch!

Leigh had prepared the vanilla cupcakes in advance and gave us six each to play with. Afterwards she gave us a paper box to carry the cupcakes home (which made my fiancé very happy)!

My creations!

At the end of the workshop, it was time to party with a glass of bubbly, chocolate coated strawberries, tea and cupcakes, of course!

Thank you Leigh and Wen for helping me have the perfect afternoon with my girlfriends!
