Street Feast was one of the best places to be in London last summer and I spent quite a few evenings there eating amazing street food. I thought it would be over for another year, instead the lovely organizers found an old factory in Hackney and launched Hawker House – “a fine showcase of London’s best street food” as recently described by The Evening Standard.
I was there last Friday to photograph the traders and the food, but also to catch a bit of the atmosphere that makes Street Feast so special.
The new location is cool as only East London can be and in particular there are a few things I liked about Hawker House: the amazing light display and disco balls, the DJ playing great music, the cloakroom and being warm and dry! I love their summer open air events and I know British people can adapt to any kind of weather, but it’s also nice to be indoor when it’s winter and it’s raining! :)
There were a few street food traders I hadn’t tried before, like Rola Wala, Fundi Pizza and Miss P’s BBQ.
The Rotary Bar was busy as usual, mixing special cocktails like the Apollo Gin Smash and the Sunset Fizz or classic Negroni, Margaritas and Mojitos.
Hawker House will be open from 5pm to midnight every Friday and Saturday until the 21st/22nd March. Entry is free before 7pm, £3 after.
[…] I checked in my room on a Friday afternoon then headed to Dalston for a night out at Street Feast Hawker House. […]
